Motivation: too many options confuse 3D apps

• Type: screen Z, eye-space Z (W), 1/Z ( inverse W)
• Format: fixed 16 / 24 / 32; float 4.12 / 8.16 / 6/20 etc.
• No reliable criteria to select optimal type and format
